The experience at a glance

Turn a complex game into a reference players can use.

The field manual combines onboarding, search, rarity filters, system explanations, probability tables, and large item catalogs. It serves both new players and experienced players looking for one exact answer.

This case study describes the live experience and the design decisions visible in the current product. It does not claim formal usability research or measured business outcomes.

01 / Problem

The product challenge

Hundreds of blocks, items, fish, companions, skins, sources, odds, and progression rules can overwhelm players or force them to search across scattered community posts.

02 / Design intent

The experience goal

Create one structured source of truth with fast search for specific items and readable explanations for systems that need deeper context.

03 / Key decisions

How the interface supports the goal

  • Top-level counts show the size and coverage of the guide.
  • Search and rarity filters support direct lookup across a large catalog.
  • A first-hour section gives new players an ordered starting path.
  • Tables and cards match the information shape of odds, items, and systems.

04 / Interaction & usability

Helping users move through the product

The page supports two modes: reading sequentially to learn and searching to answer a specific question. Consistent rarity language, section labels, and repeated data patterns reduce relearning.

05 / Tools & skills

What this work demonstrates

Complex-product thinking, information architecture, search and filtering, data-rich UI, game systems documentation, responsive design, and production implementation.

06 / What I’d improve next

Next iteration

  • Add a persistent section index for long-page navigation.
  • Expose active filters more clearly on narrow screens.
  • Add shareable links to individual catalog entries.
  • Test common player questions as timed findability tasks.

Thinking beyond the current release

The guide could become a personalized companion with owned-item tracking, favorites, build planning, and contextual links from the live game.
